Statement

In my practice, I create abstract patterns to invite reflection on how we reconstruct meaning and dialogue.

In an era of false narratives and a breakdown of trusted information, my art seeks to offer balance through the use of colour and shapes and lines, while also inserting a sense of dissonance and imbalance during these uncertain times. Working in acrylic, mixed media and digital applications, I strive to produce art that is open to interpretation.

My career as a journalist has helped me to understand that art, like writing, also involves editing and change; hence, my subtle use of layers that preserve the history of the painting while achieving an improvised outcome. A single piece of work may have multiple stories, a sort of clash of ideas or viewpoints with no predictable answers.

Finally, my process is one of curiosity and experimentation that aims to evoke an emotional response rather than a conventional sense of beauty.
