Statement
Hovering between a childlike curiosity of anatomy and a humble appreciation for the cycle of life, I enjoy presenting unconventional pieces that provoke unexpected thoughts and experiences. Having spent most of my life working with horses, I draw inspiration from the patterns and shapes that occur and repeat in nature, from the macro representations in trees, leaves and petals, down to the micro. My distinct designs echo the sacred geometry of my preferred surface (skulls), amplifying their inner uniqueness and participation in the pattern of life. Geometric patterns and detailed fine lining express the flow of chi that exists in the animal bone canvas, as I seek to translate the energy that lingers in the skull in an effort to deliver a final message to the viewer. This message, undoubtedly received by the viewer is then coloured by their personal experiences to create a unique reflection of the finite nature of life. Although my work undeniably gives a nod to death, my ultimate goal is to remind the viewer to be true to this individuality and make choices in life that nourish the self.
